To sum up, I would say Baines’s blackmailing consisted of a combination, of luring the police in the right and wrong direction. I found Valerie’s characterisation a little odd and incongruous in relation to her age and backstory. John Thaw and Kevin Whately are excellent in the leads, and Peter Woodthorpe is also a delight to see.
