No at the flick of a switch on my wall, I can have more light output from one lamp than most people had in a home 150 years ago. Highly recommended read. Not only is it damaging to humans and to wildlife, disrupting our natural rhythms, but it obliterates the subtler lights that have guided us for millennia. In Under the Stars, the author takes us a journey from the dark into the light with a special lyrical magic brought to life by his powerful description of the night sky and of how this exploration, not only made him appreciate the beauty of the night, but also how in using his senses in a different way it gave him a much greater awareness of everyt. However, found there was too much coverage of the evils of artificial light at night and not enough simply experiencing the natural darkness. This short and delightful book reminded me greatly of "Waterlog' by Roger Deakin. I think people drawn to this book are probably well aware of the evils of light pollution, and don't need too much explanation.
